The DC Neighborhoods With the Best Price Appreciation In 2016  [Urban Turf DC]  The two biggest gainers were one of the richest (Colonial Village) and one of the poorest (Marshall Heights) neighborhoods in DC.  I don’t know if this means that things are much better than we think they are, or much worse.

Marble Quarrying Looks Even Cooler Than You Imagined  [Arch Daily]  When I was a kid, we used to go swimming in an old marble quarry, and on a dare, my friend agreed to dive off the highest point of the surrounding wall.  I’ll never forget him screaming as he plummeted downwards, and then going totally silent when he passed out in midair from sheer fear, and then smacking, unconscious and face-down, into the water.  I’m laughing just thinking about it.

An Empty Smithsonian Building On the Mall Ponders Its Future  [DCist]  They’re considering ideas for what kind of museum it’s going to be eventually, and are looking for an idea that will be forward-thinking and relevant.  If it ends up as anything other than a Museum of the Internet, the system is totally broken.  (The meme wing alone will bring in record admissions.)

The Craziest Luxury Real Estate Perks  [Business Insider]   I’m mildly embarrassed to admit this, but I’m still impressed when I look at an apartment and it has a dishwasher.
