The chill of fall is slowly descending upon us—which means we can all begin, in earnest, to work on the layer of fat that will keep us warm and energized during the winter months. And I have the perfect place to do it: Taste of DC.
Taste of DC is a two day culinary extravaganza featuring food from more than 50 DC-area restaurants (like Rural Society, La Tasca, District Doughnut and MXDC) and dozens of food trucks and purveyors, as well as more than 50 beers and more than 50 wines.
The event will also host Ben’s World Chili Eating Championship. Like hotdog eating in Coney Island, this competition—where Joey “Jaws” Chestnut will face off with Sonya “The Black Widow”—is a chili-soaked scene that you don’t want to miss. Or maybe you do.
Taste of DC is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 10th, and Sunday, October 11th, from noon to 7pm both days. It will be held in Penn Quarter, in the shadow of the Capitol Building, on Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 7th Streets.
Taste of DC will also feature live entertainment, cooking demos, a Farm-to-Fork Zone and a Family Zone.
Tickets are priced from $20, for general admission, which includes admission into the festival, a voucher for a complimentary beer, wine, soda or water, and a coupon for one free rice, noodle, or salad bowl from ShopHouse; to $40, for the Drink Lovers Package, which gets you everything in the general admission package, plus $25 in beverage tickets to use in the beer garden & wine walk. If you are interested in drinking at all, get this package, as the Beer Garden and Wine Walk only accept payment via Beverage Tickets.
Then, in addition to what your ticket affords you, you can buy tastes from each of the 50 restaurants for $1-$3.
