Black Lives/White Light at ReCreative Spaces

Tblackliveshis Friday at ReCreative Spaces on Rhode Island Ave. NE, experience the opening of “Black Lives/White Light.” The all-media exhibition features 8 white artists responding to the #blacklivesmatter movement that has swept the country.

Exhibiting artists include Robin Bell, Patrick Burns, Bill Crandall, Kate Deciccio, Michael Fischerkeller, Kathryn Jones, Joe Ovelman, and Lisa Marie Thalhammer as they display their reactions to the fight to preserve and protect Black Lives.

The opening reception and party will take place from 7 pm – 12 am. The evening will also include live music and a DJ set by Adrian Loving. Throughout the month, a series of talks and panels are scheduled to further the discussion within the community.

Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival

This Saturday, get into the cherry blossom spirit at the Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival. The event will feature over 8 hours ofcherry free music, family friendly water-related activities, cultural experiences, live entertainment and some of the area’s favorite food trucks.

Entertainment and presentation highlights include the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Band and Color Guard, Blues Alley Youth Orchestra, Feedel Band, Ethio jazz, funk and soul, Nen Daiko, Japanese taiko drumming, Joe Keyes & The Late Bloomer Band, Conscious funk, Amidon Bowen Elementary Youth Choir, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington, Cantaré and the Latin American Musical traditions.

The events starts at 1:00 pm. Stick around for fireworks beginning promptly at 8:30 pm (rain or shine).

Color Vibe 5k

colorvibeThis Saturday, experience D.C’s most colorful and fun-filled run: Color Vibe 5k.

Over 500 runners can expect to get blasted at color stations throughout the RFK Stadium lot, and an extra dose of color during partytime at the finish line.

At the Color Vibe, You are the color canvas, “and when you’re finished with this 5k run you’ll be an exciting and vivid masterpiece.”

ScavengerThis Saturday get ready for the hunt of your life—at the National Zoo. The best part is, you don’t need to be a zoologist to win—you just need your wits and good teamwork to solve the tricky, humorous questions about the most amusing and amazing aspects of the animal kingdom.

Highlights include the famous giant pandas, the Great Ape House, the Think Tank (where primates do the pondering), Komodo dragons, the Asia Trail, Gorilla Grove, Amazonia, and the Reptile Discovery Center.

Clash of the Arts’ mission is to create an engaging and action-packed night where the community can enjoy and appreciate different facets of art all while playing a vital role in the movement; a night where local artistic talent is spotlighted and put on display to showcase their creativity in front of the art enthusiasts in attendance; all in a safe, secure, and positive environment where artistic creativity reigns supreme.

The event will feature a variety of interactive sets such as MC’s battles, poet cyphers, and mixologists duking it out to create the most delectable cocktail.
