A Splendid Wake Poetry

Literary lovers are in fsplendidwakeor a treat this Friday with A SPLENDID WAKE 3, the 3rd annual public program celebrating the District’s poetry scene from 1900’s til today.

The event will highlight Georgia Douglas Johnson and the Saturday Nighters, poet May Miller, the Federal Poets, Poetry Workshops born during “Poetry and the National Conscience” conference, and the Modern Urban Griots.

Presenters include:  Regie Cabico: Host; Kim Roberts and Michon Boston on Georgia Douglas Johnson and the Saturday Nighters; Miller Newman on May Miller; Judith McCombs on the Federal Poets with Donald Illich and Doritt Carroll and more.

The event is from 6:30-8:30 pm at The George Washington University Gelman Library. It’s free and open to the public.

East City Art’s EMULSION

Saturday, March 21, 2015  

emulsionThis Saturday, join East City Art and Phil Hutinet for the 2nd juried show, EMULSION at Gallery O on H. Thirty-one local contemporary artists have been selected to display a wide array of art forms and mediums – from two-dimensional work to performance based work – to create a unified ensemble.

Three cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place contestants on opening night. The event is from 7:00 pm – 11:00 pm.

From Monday, March 23 until Friday, March 27, the gallery will also host a series of programs including panel discussions on local contemporary art and other programming related to the exhibition. From opening night through Friday, March 27, guests will select their favorite two artists and vote via text messaging.
